Our Story

YUZEN takes its name from yuzen, a traditional Japanese dyeing craft known for patience, detail, and artistry.

Since 2006, we’ve brought that same spirit of craftsmanship to our kitchen here on Mercer Island. Every dish is prepared with care, and every guest is welcomed with the warmth we would offer in our own home.

For us, great food and genuine hospitality have always belonged together.

ABOUT US

The Craft Behind YUZEN

YUZEN is run by owner-chef David and his wife, Alexis.

David’s path in sushi was shaped in Seattle, where he trained under Takaya Hanamoto and Ryuichi Nakano, learning the precision, discipline, and respect behind Japanese cuisine. He brings that foundation to YUZEN with a style that is thoughtful, refined, and always evolving.

While David leads the kitchen, Alexis brings a warm, personal touch to the dining room, giving YUZEN the relaxed and welcoming feel of a true neighborhood restaurant.

Together, they’ve made YUZEN distinctly their own rooted in craft, shaped by experience, and closely connected to the people they serve.
